I award the win to the Government side team of Latvia.

The Opposition side in this debate failed to match the detail and specificity offered by the Government side. This led to A. a disjointed presentation of their own case and B. an ineffective rebuttal to the case provided by Latvia.

Throughout the debate, Brazil shifted back and forth on the issue of nuclear armament as a nation's "right." At some times, they stated that "every single nation should have an inalienable right to an army and everything it entails to protect its sovereignty" going on to explain how nuclear weapons are part of that. Then at others, they state that "there is no convincing or justified reason for the development of nuclear weapons."

Branching off of this, there was much dialogue provided on the hypocrisy of large nations having nukes while small nations were deprived. This claim of hegemonic abuse by superpowers was never really flushed out, but only served as a spring board to a myriad of slippery slope claims positing that similar aid denials could be enacted for things like child labour, differences in political systems, or race / religious differences. Never was there a link to why those things were analogous with nuclear weaponry.

The largest clash in the debate came on the idea of the necessity of aid in terms of its impact on the citizenry of these countries. The detail that was provided by Latvia as to how nuclear programs are counterproductive to the populations of the nation developing them was emphasized through many of the points in the debate. Counter to this, Brazil provided only the example of Gambia as a country thrown into turmoil by removal of aid. Other attempts to support opposition side came through largely irrelevant material concerning nuclear energy as opposed to weaponry, and problems addressed, as Government pointed out, through humanitarian aid as opposed to developmental.
