Thanks for the debate - I enjoyed this a lot. This debate is a prop win for the following reasons

The argument about gender equality is commented upon rather than argued. Nevertheless the argument is poorly substantiated with rhetorical justifications which whilst intuitevly persuasive lack analytic and empirical depth. The second argument about a balanced sex ratio is better made but limited in focus but this is not picked apart on by the opp rather they appear slightly gun- shy opposing instead by agreeing with aims and alluding to alternatives which whilst plausible is not robust enough to counter some of the arguments being made. The case is won convincingly by the prop on the issue of money.

The opp attempt to counter prop's initial claim by the example of money but props claim is dependent on two factors not countered (a) the poverty line (b) the cultural male preference . Neither of which are engaged with sufficiently by opp. Prop are also stronger on the issue of time lag and efficacy of policy. Opp appear to offer alternate policies by menu - listing education and welfare policies . Whilst this is good evidence of the existence of these polices it only serves to mitigate not combat Props argument about how this would directly incentivise the bearing, birth and raising of baby girls. Prop also make a better job of tying the debate to the future always important in Indian societies with the dowry that would have to be paid. Opp do not demonstrate the harm that would come from not pursuing Gender Neutral policies, instead it is a loose point unconnected to the debate. Opp need to argue more and comment less on arguments.

I want to thank both of the teams for participating. After evaluating this debate, I saw this debate as an Opp win.

Reasoning: Burden of proof: Gov side had 2 problems it wanted to solve: (1) Discrimination of girls; (2) Unbalanced sex ratio because of female babies’ abortions. The mechanism that was presented lacked practicality and direct rational link on how “monetary gifts” will solve the problem as Opp stated. Furthermore Gov side after implementing a plan, stated in later point that this is actually a principal debate. That was rejected by Opp saying that any “spending program” should be grounded in real life India. The mechanism itself was rebutted effectively by Opp.

Gender Equality: Gov side in both 2nd and 3th arguments talked about the importance of gender equality. Opp agreed that gender equality is important, and justly stated that the real question in this debate is how do we to change India social norms.

Gov “Social stability” point: This point has two main assertions: (1) That a 1:1 ratio leads only to formation of a nuclear family, (2) That the ratio imbalance causes social crimes. These assertions weren’t linked to the solution of the problem raised by Gov and were rebutted successfully by Opp side.

The rational of the impact “direct cash reward and social welfare” on the birth ratio come in Gov 4th argument and was explained well. On that point Opp provided a slightly better explained analysis of the German example that showing that “parents in India have cultural reasons for avoiding female children that have roots far deeper than a simple economic calculus”.

Backlashes: Opp listed several points regarding the backlash effects of the proposal described in “Gender-Neutral Policies” and “Increase Trafficking and Exploitation of Women” points. Note that “The Neutral Policies” can be viewed as self-contradicting as mentioned by Gov as we are talking about affirmative action.

Redundancy of the plan: The discussion whether the plan is or isn’t redundant was a tight race. Both teams gave good points for the legitimacy of the plan. However that last point of Opp did describe a rather similar measures being taking today by the Indian government that is very similar to the plan suggested by Opp, and if implemented to all, will require huge amount of funds.

토론자들에게 감사드린다. 이번 토론을 굉장히 즐겼다. 이번 토론은 다음 이유로 찬성 팀이 이겼다.

성 평등에 대한 주장은 논증되기보다는 단순히 언급되었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 주장은 분석적이고 실증적인 깊이가 결여된 채로 직관적인 설득력만 있었고 수사학적 정당화에 기초한 빈약한 입증만 이루어졌다. 균형 잡힌 성비에 대한 두 번째 주장은 범위를 제한해서 초점도 맞았고 더 잘 성립되긴 했지만 반대 팀이 이 부분을 별도로 골라내지 않았고 그들은 약간 겁먹은 채로 반대를 했다. 대신에 그들은 목적에 동의를 했고 그럴듯한 대안을 암시했지만 그게 상대 팀이 제시한 주장 몇몇에 대응할 만큼 충분히 강력하지 않았다. 돈 문제에 대한 주장은 찬성 팀이 확실히 이겼다.

반대 팀은 찬성 팀의 초기 주장에 대해 돈에 관련된 사례를 제시하면서 대응하려고 했으나 빈곤선과 남아 선호 사상이라는 두 가지 요인에 기초한 찬성 팀의 주장에는 대응하지 않았다. 반대 팀은 둘 중 어느 것에도 충분히 대응하지 않았다. 찬성 팀은 또한 시간 지체와 정책의 효과성에 대한 사안에서도 보다 강세를 보였다. 반대 팀은 다양한 선택지가 포함된 교육과 복지 정책을 대안 정책으로 제시했다. 이들 정책들의 존재를 뒷받침하는 좋은 증거들이 있었음에도 이것들은 충격을 완화시켰을 뿐 이것이 어떻게 직접적으로 여자 아이의 양육, 출산, 그리고 양육을 장려하는지에 대한 찬성 팀의 주장과 맞서 싸우지 못했다. 찬성 팀은 또한 인도 사회에서 지참금 지불 문제가 앞으로도 항상 중요할 것이라는 점을 토론과 연결시키는 데 있어 더 나은 모습을 보여주었다. 반대 팀은 성적 중립 정책을 추구하지 않을 때 나타나는 해로움을 주장하지 않고, 대신에 이것을 토론과 연결되지 않은 느슨한 주장으로 방치했다. 반대 팀은 주장을 할 때 논증을 더 많이 하고 단순한 언급을 더 줄일 필요가 있다.

정책의 중복 : 그 정책이 기존의 것과 중복 되었는가 아닌가에 대한 논의는 정말 치열한 경쟁의 장이었다. 양 팀 모두 그 계획의 정당성에 대한 좋은 주장들을 제시했다. 하지만 반대 팀의 마지막 주장이 인도 정부가 비슷한 수단을 취하고 있고 반대 팀이 제시한 계획과도 비슷하며, 만약 이것들이 모두 적용된다면, 엄청난 재정 부담을 요구한다는 점을 묘사해 냈다.
