How do you think about the missy generation which we call '아줌마'?

The 1995 Korean hit movie, "Mom Has a Boyfriend", could not have been made during the 1980s. It's all about a young attractive housewife who, bored with her married life, decides to have an affair with another man. The man also happens to be married and looking for some "extramarital sex." The movie's popularity was proof of the new liberal attitude toward women in Korean society today.
The young woman character symbolizes the "Missy Generation", educated Korean women in their late 20s or 30s who represent a kind of '90s female revolution. although married, these women refuse to assume the role of "아줌마" and spend their days cleaning, cooking, washing clothes, and waiting for their husbands to come home. It is a fast-growing segment of Korean society.
Korean women today are better educated than ever before. Beginning in the early 2980s, women began to enroll in colleges and universities in record numbers. Now married, they want more out of life than merely to be married and spend their lives serving their husbands. They are demanding more equality, more freedom in their homes and a better place in the society.
This, of course, is not the way it has always been in Korea. Until now Korean women have always been expected to spend their lives serving their husbands and sons, in the Confucian tradition.
But modern Korean society has changed a lot since the days of Confucius, and even younger generation men realize that a democracy cannot operate efficiently if half the population is relegated to being servants while the other half does all the important work.
The signs of a change in thinking toward women's roles in the society are everywhere. In the 1980s, women drivers were rare, but now women under 30 years of age who don't have driver's licenses are becoming hard to find.
Nowadays, women are entering politics and the military-not just as nurses but as pilots, and they are doing many jobs which used to be reserved for men. Large corporations are finally starting to hire women as professional staff workers, and not just as "아가씨" office ladies.
The women of the Missy Generation are not satisfied with things the way they have always been. They are sending a message to Korean society that they're not going to play by the old rules anymore.
